Weekend News & Christmas Wishes for You

"A day without you is like a day without honey."
Winnie the Pooh

Thanks to all who've been stopping by during the past few weeks. I have appreciated all your kind and encouraging comments and have enjoyed getting to know you as well.

My husband and I hosted an open house this past Saturday and boy did we ever have fun! Friends from all around popped in and a good time was had by all. The menu was so much fun. There were awesome chicken nuggets with dipping sauces, two kinds of meatballs, tuna cups, shrimp cocktail, cheese & crackers, veggies & dip, sliced ham and cheese with homemade rolls, and I can't remember what else. The dessert table was loaded with treats and the cream puffs didn't last long. The children had the most fun I think, trying out a bit of everything. I just loved to see their eyes light up as they rounded the table (again and again and again!) Unfortunately, I was so caught up in all the fun I forgot to take pictures. However, my husband did snap a quick look at the food table.

Last night was our "Christmas By the Fireside" service at our church. It's a special time where we convert our auditorium into a living room with a hearth and fireplace and holiday decor. The ladies bring a lunch and we have an old-fashioned family style Christmas with lots of carol singing. Some of our more seasoned members shared what it was like years ago before electricity and cars and how the holiday was centered on family and friends and not so much what was under the tree. One gentlemen recalled having eaten so much that they all HAD to go for a walk - and it was -40F! Now, there's a memory. Later, my husband re-told the Christmas story including parts from Matthew and Luke; and near the end as I looked around there were a few tears as he related Jesus' great sacrifice. This event is always a highlight of the year for us and this year was no different.

And now for our holiday plans...We've been invited to my mother in law's where some of my husband's family will gather for a Christmas Eve supper and then a turkey and ham dinner on Christmas Day. I'll be bringing various sweets and treats along with the ham and our delicious
Sour Cream Cheesecake. My family lives many miles away so telephone calls will have to suffice for this year.

And we won't want to forget Gus, the big white dog . He is coming for the drive and can't wait to find his place in the van.

So now I would like to take a moment to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. See you in a few days. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know your special holiday plans.

Blessings,
Jessica
