Show & Tell Friday

It's time for another Show and Tell hosted by Kelli at There's No Place Like Home. Stop by her place to see all the great treats.

As you can see from the picture below (click to enlarge), snow is still in great abundance in our neighborhood. At one point during the winter, the snow was piled up so high that Gus, the Big White Dog could have just walked over the fence and greeted all the neighbors. Most of it has already disappeared but unfortunately, at this time of year parts of our backyard become a muddy pool.

So, this past Tuesday I donned my big black and bulky snow boots and ventured out to do some very basic yard clean up. Any seven year-old would have been in their glee, stomping through all the water holes. But not me! I just wanted to clean up a few things that had blown in over the winter and enjoy some the warmest sunshine we'd had in months.

For those of you who are avid gardeners, you may not appreciate my very amaterish flowerbeds, but this lil' ole green thumb was so excited when I stumbled on beginning sprouts of rhubarb and easter lilies.

I had no idea they were ready to break through just yet.

I almost did a happy dance except the neighbors from four different kitchen windows have a perfect view into our yard, and I was afraid of falling in the water! I always get excited that the perennials are so faithful each year.

Now some of my readers know that when you've had snow coverage from November to May, anything that resembles life in the garden (even bugs and worms) is a pleasant site for sore eyes. Now I can't wait to replant my dahlias when the snow is completely gone. They produce such beautiful cut flowers all summer long.

For, lo, the winter is past,
the rain is over [and] gone;
The flowers appear on the earth;
the time of the singing [of birds] is come,
and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.
Song of Solomon 2:11,12

As always, your comments are welcome!

Blessings,
Jessica

We are all chombing at the bits for spring. I love Dahliahs, too, and we always plant them in our back yard against part of the wooden fence.

What a great verse to end with on your post! I didn't read before that you are from Canada. Which province? We have been to Ontario (going again this summer on our family vacation), Alberta and British Columbia for vacations and my Hub fishes up in Northernmost Manitoba!

I'm sure you're eager for spring after a long winter! Those first signs of bulbs sprouting are such a welcome sight.
Here in California we're full of sunshines and lots of flowers!
Love the verse you shared.

Hi Jessica,

Isn't it such a lift to the spirit to see spring finally appearing! It truly has been a long winter but now we have only warmer weather, green trees and lovely flowers to look foward to!

Thanks for the mention yesterday! Have a good weekend

Aaaah, finally the snow has
melted here, but north of where
I live got 12+ inches snow again.
We got lots of rain, and some
of my plants are getting green.
I am really ready for Spring and
Sunshine!

Like you, I'm ready for spring. But it's very elusive ~ we had snow yesterday and today along with cold wind. Hopefully next week will bring warmer weather.
